The sixth season of the American television series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., based on the Marvel Comics organization S.H.I.E.L.D., follows S.H.I.E.L.D. agents and allies as they try to save humanity following the death of director Phil Coulson. It is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and acknowledges the continuity of the franchise's films. The season is produced by ABC Studios, Marvel Television, and Mutant Enemy Productions, with Jed Whedon, Maurissa Tancharoen, and Jeffrey Bell serving as showrunners.
Coulson actor Clark Gregg returns as a new character in the season, alongside principal cast members Ming-Na Wen, Chloe Bennet, Iain De Caestecker, Elizabeth Henstridge, Henry Simmons, and Natalia Cordova-Buckley. They are joined by Jeff Ward, promoted from a recurring role in season five. The sixth season was ordered in May 2018, and filming began that July. The production had wrapped by December. Unlike previous seasons, which featured direct tie-ins with MCU films, this season avoids referencing the films Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame due to logistical issues and so it can tell its own story.
The sixth season premiered on ABC on May 10, 2019, marking the lowest-rated season premiere of the series, but a larger audience than the previous season. It is set to run for 13 episodes. In November 2018, before this season debuted, ABC renewed the series for a seventh season.
